Collexa

Collexa is a sterile CollaCare sponge with an absorbent polyurethane foam backing. The CollaCare sponge is derived from a natural source of purified type 1 bovine or equine collagen

Description

Collexa is a primary dressing that is applied to exudating wounds. It can be cut to fit the wound and used in combination with other semi-occlusive or non-occlusive secondary dressings. The CollaCare sponge is derived from a natural source of purified type 1 collagen. The polyurethane foam layer serves to effectively absorb and act as a reservoir for wound fluid for exudating wounds.

Collexa is an advanced bi-layer wound care device for heavily exuding wounds, comprised of a layer of lyophilized collagen sponge containing 2.8 mg/cm2 of renatured bovine collagen and a backing layer of absorbent polyurethane foam. The biodegradable collagen matrix provides a scaffold for cellular invasion and capillary growth, while the polyurethane foam layer acts as a reservoir absorbing unwanted wound fluids. Collexa can absorb greater than ten times its own weight in wound fluids.
