XaraColl®

Innocoll has two primary families to protect XaraColl in the US, Europe and Japan:

The first patent family entitled "A drug delivery device for providing local analgesia, local anesthesia or nerve blockade," has an application priority date of Mar 28, 2007. It is a broad patent which covers products comprising any amino amide or amino ester anesthetic in a collagen matrix intended for the provision of local analgesia or anesthesia over about 24 hours or longer. The US Patent 8,034,368 was granted on Oct 11, 2011 and expires May 21, 2030. The corresponding European application (EP2139457, published Jan 2010) is in the examination phase and the Japanese application (JP2010522738, published Jul 2010) is pending examination.

The second patent family entitled "Drug delivery implants and processes for their preparation," has an application priority date of Nov 06, 2008. This invention relates to a further development of the CollaRx technology aimed at the sustained in-vivo delivery of drugs, including bupivacaine hydrochloride, from collagen-based matrices. The European (EP2352531, published Aug 2011), US (13/128,057, published Dec 2011), and Japanese (535203/2011) applications are all pending examination.

Cogenzia®

Innocoll has filed initial US (13/085,585), European (11161898.9) and International PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) (PCT/EP2012/055995) patent applications specifically related to Cogenzia with a priority date of Apr 11, 2011. These applications are entitled "Methods for treating bacterial infection" and cover the local treatment of bacterial infections with an aminogylcoside antibiotic dispersed in a collagen matrix when used in combination with systemic administration of other antibacterial agents.

CollaGUARD®

Innocoll recently filed an initial European patent application entitled "A modified collagen" with priority date Jan 9, 2012, which is intended to cover a process for the improved properties of collagen membranes that maybe produced using Innocoll's CollaFilm™ technology. In particular, the patent relates to improved mechanical and physiological properties for its CollaGUARD Adhesion Barrier, as well as providing other advantages for drug delivery. The international PCT application will be submitted approximately 12 months post the priority date.

CollaPress™ Technology

Innocoll's proprietary CollaPress technology is described in the granted European patent EP1265648 entitled "Novel collagen-based material with improved properties for use in human and veterinary medicine and the method of manufacturing such," which does not expire until Mar 09, 2020. It has been nationalized and maintained in 12 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland & UK.

The patent covers collagen membranes with improved mechanical and fluid-absorption properties which may be produced by thermal compression. This avoids need of chemical cross-linking agents, protects the native collagen from degradation, and preserves its physiological properties. The technology patent is currently utilized in Innocoll's ProColl™ wound management device and may also be used for the development of other proprietary, bioresorbable tissue reinforcement implants and/or as implantable delivery systems for biologically active substances such as hemostatic agents, growth factors, cytokines, and drugs.
